Festival Mozart 2024 – Mozart in extremis!
In extremis is a phrase that signals a crisis, the need for a life-saving solution. Is Mozart’s music, classical music in general, in such a situation? We think so, and that is why we are turning our attention to those who can save it: young people. Young performers, young audiences, young musicologists, not forgetting their mentors. The idea of educating both future audiences and future professional musicians has been central to the concerns of the Romanian Mozart Society over the years. In this edition of the festival, we also introduced a concert for children and masterclasses for students and pupils.
This year’s Mozart Festival is an event of contrasts, of extremes. Mozart’s music is set alongside that of Enescu and Saint-Saëns, performed on the modern piano, but also on the fortepiano, the historic instrument for which it was composed. It is performed by children and established artists as well. We will meet the beloved pianist Aurelia Vișovan again, but we will also get to know musicians who are performing for the first time in Cluj: the young pianist Can Çakmur and the conductor Michal Nesterowicz.
With the launch of the volume Francisc László. Mozartian Studies we will pay tribute to the musicologist and professor Francisc László, in whose life Mozart’s music had a central place, and who 33 years ago founded the Romanian Mozart Society.
The guest of honor at this year’s symposium is none other than the legendary musician Robert Levin, whose first visit to Cluj this year marks 30 years.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 33rd edition of the International Mozart Festival – Mozart in extremis!
